The first highlight is the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank of the Nile, where the pharaohs were buried in rock-cut tombs famous for their colourful wall paintings and detailed scenes.
Entry is included, and the standard ticket covers three tombs. Tutankhamun's tomb is not part of the standard ticket; if you would like to see it, a separate ticket is needed. Your Egyptologist guide explains the history of the valley and the meaning of the tombs you visit.
Next you visit the terraced mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, set directly against the cliffs and one of the most remarkable buildings in Luxor.
Your guide tells the story of Hatshepsut, one of the best-known female rulers of ancient Egypt, and of the temple built in her honour.
Karnak is one of the largest temple complexes in Egypt, with monumental columns, obelisks, statues and reliefs. The Great Hypostyle Hall, with its forest of giant columns, is a moment most guests remember long after the trip.
After the sightseeing, an Egyptian lunch is served. Lunch is included in the price, so you do not need to organise a meal during the day.
Luxor is about 200 km from Hurghada. The drive by air-conditioned coach takes around three hours each way, depending on traffic and the pickup route.
Because of the distance, pickup is early in the morning. The exact pickup time depends on your hotel and is confirmed before the trip. The whole excursion takes about 14 to 15 hours, including the return journey.
